Weekend photo outings: light art, wet asphalt and a golden coastline

The forecast points to Sunday as the weekend’s best window for outdoor shooting and drones: dry conditions, light winds and sunset at around 19:43. Saturday morning is likely to be calm and dry, while the risk of rain increases through the afternoon. Friday’s rain is expected to ease towards evening.

1. Culture Night route from Kråkerøy to ECLIPSE

When: Friday, 18:00–22:00.

Travel: About 4–5 km by bike from Kråkerøy Church.

Suggested route: Light and sound at the Lone houseboat, 18:00–20:00 → Borg Cathedral Choir at Sveisehall 3 at 18:30 → the ECLIPSE water-and-light installation at Dampskipsbrygga from 20:30.

Opportunity: Wet asphalt, industrial architecture, audience silhouettes and projections onto water mist. The A7 V with a 24–70 mm lens is the natural choice; also shoot short, static video clips with ambient sound.

Limitations: The events are free, but some programme items have limited capacity. Dampskipsbrygga will be closed to vehicle traffic, and tripods must be positioned outside the flow of visitors. No drone use because of the crowds and the active local UAS/BVLOS notice.

2. Quiet morning outing at Isegran

When: Saturday, 06:30–09:00; sunrise at about 06:38.

Travel: Approximately 3.2 km by bike.

Why now: Light winds, cloud cover and damp surfaces after Friday may produce fine tones and reflections before the city wakes up.

Opportunity: Create a small maritime series featuring boat hulls, rigging, woodwork and shipyard details. Use 24 mm for environmental images and a Helios 44 for textures and close-ups.

Limitations: Stay in open outdoor areas and respect active shipyard and work zones. Skip drone flying on Saturday: the published police/BVLOS notice covers central Fredrikstad and remains in force until Saturday evening.

3. The Old Town as one focused photo story

When: Saturday, 10:00–13:30, before the highest risk of rain.

Travel: About 6–7 km by bike, or by bike combined with the free city ferry.

Why now: The knitting festival fills Tøihuset and Frivillighuset, while Children’s Day with the goats and chickens begins at 12:00. This offers craft details, animals and street activity.

Opportunity: Set yourself a target of 8–12 images: entrance, setting, hands at work, details, reactions and a closing image. A 50 mm lens is well suited to this.

Limitations: Children’s Day is free; festival activities may require a ticket or registration. Be careful with identifiable images of children and ask for consent for close portraits. No drones over the events or the Old Town that day.

4. Kjøkøy Fort and Skams klove—the week’s longer bike ride

When: Sunday, 08:30–11:30, or alternatively 15:30–18:30.

Travel: About 7 km each way by bike, plus a walking loop of approximately 3.3–3.5 km.

Why now: Sunday is expected to be dry and bright, while the ravine and fort offer more dramatic terrain than the urban options.

Opportunity: Symmetry and concrete at the fort, wide-angle views through the ravine, and moving action-camera footage along the trail.

Limitations: The terrain is uneven and occasionally steep; sturdy footwear is recommended. A beach clean-up is scheduled in the area from 12:00–15:00, but the registration deadline has passed—choose the morning or late afternoon for a quieter outing. Skams klove is poorly suited to FPV because rock and forest quickly obstruct line of sight. Any drone use must take place from an open, empty area after checking maps and landowner permission again.

5. Golden-hour FPV and coastal photography at Enhuskilen/Glufsa

When: Sunday, 16:30–19:45.

Travel: Around 1.7 km by bike to Enhuskilen, then optionally continue along the coastal path.

Why now: This is the weekend’s best genuine FPV window: dry weather, light winds and golden side light approaching sunset at around 19:43.

Opportunity: Calm, low passes along the coastline with FPV, supplemented by handheld clips of rocky outcrops, reeds and water. Plan one short sequence rather than using multiple batteries at random.

Limitations: At the time of a check on Thursday, no permit-required zone was marked at the Enhus point for Sunday, but this is not pre-approval. Plot the entire planned flight volume in Dronesoner and check IPPC/NOTAM again immediately before take-off. Keep a good distance from walkers, swimmers, roads and campsite guests; confirm take-off and landing with the landowner. Do not extend the flight towards Alshusbukta or the Kråkerøy archipelago nature reserves. FPV in the open category requires an observer beside the pilot, unless the flight takes place under a relevant approved NLF safety system.

My choice

ECLIPSE on Friday for the weekend’s most distinctive photo and video opportunity. If flying is the main goal, save your batteries for Enhuskilen on Sunday afternoon.
